Science of the Time Lords: Doctor Who Event Returns for a fun-filled weekend in Leicester

On 25th and 26th January 2020 it’s time to discover the science behind one of the worlds most popular TV franchises, if you can come out from behind the sofa for long enough of course!

Join the National Space Centre for a fun family weekend looking at the fact behind the fiction. An event for families, children and fans to enjoy, there is a jam-packed schedule of talks, exhibitions and lots of your favourite terrifying foes to encounter.

The Doctor will see you now…

On Saturday 25th January visitors can meet special guest David Bradely – The First Doctor. David is known for playing Argus Filch in the Harry Potter series and Walder Frey in the HBO fantasy series Games of Thrones. In 2013 and 2017 he portrayed the first First Doctor, William Hartnell’s First in a series of audio stories released by Big Finish entitled The First Doctor Adventures starting in January 2018.

On Sunday 26th January, Whovians will be joined by Paul McGann, The Eighth Doctor. Paul starred in the 1987 dark comedy ‘Withnail and I’, and as the eighth incarnation of the Doctor in the 1996 Doctor Who television film, a role he reprised in more than 70 audio dramas and the 2013 mini-episode “The Night of the Doctor”.

Fans can add to their visit with opportunities for autographs and photographs with the special guests.

Activities and Exhibitions:

The National Space Centre will be home again to the TARDIS interior which was built as part of a 48-hour challenge in 2019. This time it will appear with a new development, creating a more immersive experience for photoshoots. The set is available for photoshoots throughout the dat (£10 without special guest, £25 with special guest).

The Monsters Are Coming: Hyde Fundraisers are back with a monstrous collection of characters whilst the Shapeshifters will be appearing as the Zygons and the 15th Cyber Legion will be premiering a brand new Cyber Tomb helmet display. They will also be joined by cybermen, clockwork droids, Judoon, Sycorax, Ood, Silence, and a few doctors.

Thanks to HTC, you can immerse yourself in the all-new VIVE Cosmos headset, where you can experience the recently launched ‘Doctor Who: The Edge of Time’ VR game.

There will also be a whole range of activities for visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the Time Lords, including a Hyperspace Hypermarket and Craft Zone to discover.

A key feature of theis year’s event will be ‘Artist Alley’ where fans can explore the work of Grant Perkins, a comic book artist and writer; Carolyn Edwards, an artist who specialises in sci-fi portraits and Sophie Iles, an artist  whose work has appeared in Doctor Who Magazine. Sophie has also written for Big Finish Productions.
