DINING: Summer Openings in Birmingham

The merry go round that is Birmingham’s dining scene has been in full spin. Whose coming whose going? Who changing and what are we currently loving right now?

It’s all going on in Birming-yum writes DLUXE Dining correspondent
Anita Champaneri.

Out with Viva Brazil and in with Dirty Martini, out goes Cheval Blanc and in comes Little Blackwood. Out goes Nosh and Quaff and in comes Jailbird.

Who decides what’s hot and what’s not? Not self-confessed experts like me, but the paying public. But what I can tell you about is all the cool new things coming to the city this summer…. and there
are plenty of them!

Bringing the buzz of Bangkok to Birmingham, Thai Express has brought its own brand of Thai Street Food to the hustle and bustle of Grand Central’s food court. If you crave a full authentic Thai menu, cooked fresh from live cooking stations, skillfully and speedily, then
this is the place for you. Expect full-on, flavoursome food in a fun environment.

If you live by the motto ‘winner winner chicken dinner’ then a visit to Rebel Chicken is compulsory. It was originally going to be called Fowl Play (which I think is hilarious) and is a new 50-seater eatery in the Jewellery Quarter where Fishylicious use to be.

Sounds like it’s going to be the Che Guevara of chicken as its marinated, steamed and cooked on a specialist rotisserie over a mix of Cuban and sweet cherry wood logs.

Sundays sound great with their ‘Rum Reggae and Roasts’ from noon. And with an impressive 120-seater beer garden and courtyard it sounds like a fab place to hang out this summer.

For those of you looking for a family friendly place to watch sport and eat great food then get on your horse and gallop to Smokey Barrels, an American style smokehouse on the Coventry Road near Solihull.

Let them introduce you to the joys of the Smokehaus. The meat is lovingly slow cooked over a real wood fire to create the rich, deep and distinctive smoky taste that makes the barbecue food so authentically mouthwatering.

So, roll up those sleeves and get stuck into a menu full of smokehouse favourites…
