How to make your wedding fit for royals at Selfridges Birmingham
You may not have received a gold-embossed invitation to witness the nuptials of HRH Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle on May 19, but you can still mark this royal occasion.
Selfridges Birmingham has in stock a range of commemorative gifts that are just the thing to enjoy when watching the footage of the most hotly anticipated wedding of the year.
Flying the flag for Britain is Biscuiteers, which has produced a gorgeous limited edition gift box (£49.99) filled with intricately iced sweet vanilla biscuits. Biscuit designs include a dress, cake, union flags and a royal coach.
Walker’s, makers of fine Scottish shortbread, has also produced a special edition tin of its crumbly sweet treats, featuring a photograph of Meghan and Harry. Inside are 24 shortbreads, each shaped into Union Jacks.
All eyes will be on Meghan’s dress, of course, and you can bet your bottom dollar that brides-to-be will be clamouring to emulate her look – and Selfridges Birmingham’s bridal boutique is already gearing up for enquiries from women looking to emulate her look.
For those already looking for their dream dress, Selfridges Birmingham is the place to go for an outfit to remember – from Jenny Packham to Oscar de la Renta gowns to designer separates from Max Mara, Isabel Benenato and Stella McCartney.
The wedding party
Needle & Thread’s range of floaty frocks are just the thing for bridesmaids attending brides at a relaxed, yet chic wedding. Think tiers of pleated tulle, embroidered buds and foliage and high neck, these fairytale dresses – available in both short and long – are pretty and grown up. Self Portrait – a brand that Meghan has already been seen wearing – also has exquisite dresses that would complement a bride. The floral-guipure dress with semi-sheer sleeves that give a cape-effect silhouette is delicate and its fit and flare look flatters most shapes. This off-the-shoulder dress has a lining that ends at the second tier, creating a semi-sheer, youthful look.
Ted Baker’s Dulciee cut-out woven gown is another perfect bridesmaid dress, with a flattering fit and flare silhouette, softly flared sleeves, while this minimalist maxi dress from Whistles has knotted detail at its cutout back and subtly twisted shoulders.
Brides-to-be are spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting shoes for their special day with the Jenny Packham x LK Bennett bridal collection, which is exclusive to Selfridges Birmingham in the city. Whatever the design of dress, the bridal shoe collection will have something to complement, from vertiginous heels to ballet flats. Jimmy Choo Romy 85 glitter courts feature the label’s classic pointed toe, pin-thin heel and a crown of crystals at the foot, while its sculptural Lancer 100 satin courts look ideal with a short dress or long. Miu Miu crystal embellished pumps have a retro style round toes with metallic crystal-embossed heel. Also on offer is a large selection of styles from Offspring.
