Peaky Blinders Live Festival set to be a complete ‘blinder’ at new venue

Ticket sales for a major two-day festival, which is set to be Birmingham’s biggest ever Peaky Blinders event, have proved so popular organisers have moved it to a larger venue.

The Peaky Blinders Live festival looks set to welcome around 3,000 visitors across this weekend (Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September).

The two day feast of entertainment, music and food, which had been set to be based in Adderley Street, will now be held in Boxxed and 119 on Floodgate Street in Digbeth.

Organisers have also revealed some of the first images and lineup across the weekend as the build begins behind the scenes on transforming the venues into a turn-of-the century Peaky’s Playground.

Benjy Hill, event promoter who is helping set-up the festival, said: “We have been inundated with ticket sales since the festival was announced at the beginning of the summer – which was incredible for us to know there was such support and interest in it. So we made the decision to move both to a bigger venue, and place it indoors, so we wouldn’t have to worry about the weather or turning people away.

“Along with the impeccably turned out food offering from Digbeth Dining Club, there will be magician and television presenter Ben Halin entertaining the crowds, burlesque dancing, a house band and outdoors Ferris Wheel – on top of a host of other surprises for our guests to enjoy,” he added.

Stax Creations, who are also based in Digbeth, are currently building the interior set which will be authentic to the era, and visitors will be transported back into the world of the infamous gang from the turn of the 20th Century.

There will be a vintage fairground featuring amusements from the era, historial talks delivered from Brum Tours, tarot card reading, live boxing and a range of bespoke makers stalls, curated by Digbeth Arts Market.

Also part of the entertainment will be A Chimps Tea Party and Peaky Blinders Bingo.

Presented by Brum Tours and Shameful Indulgence, the theatrical event will have a cast of over 100 actors and musicians in period costume.

Benjy was also keen to stress that the event was child friendly, with Sunday being a particular focus for parents and children to enjoy.

“Tickets are nearly sold out for Saturday, and we want to make sure families know that this will be fun for them too, and so everyone is welcome to join in during the day, so make sure you get your tickets now before both days fill up,” he added.

Benjy said he believed the festival had proved so popular because the BBC show had captured people’s imaginations of life had been like for Brummies, and the city was finally getting recognition for creativity, history and being a place to visit.”

“We are so proud that the show is known the world over, and we want to celebrate it and also have a bit of fun at the same time right in the heart of Digbeth – and we know it’s just going to be a fantastic two days,” he said.

The event runs from noon until 10pm both days, with children welcome until 7pm.
