Selfridges Birmingham celebrates the arrival of Dippy the dinosaur

Budding paleontologists are being invited to Selfridges Birmingham for two days of dinosaur delights and fossil fun to celebrate the arrival of Dippy the dinosaur to the city.

Dippy, the iconic 26-metre-long diplodocus, will be resident at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery from May 26 – September 9 as it goes on its first UK tour.

And to mark the occasion, Selfridges Birmingham will be hosting Destination Dinosaur in partnership with the museum on May 30-31.

The half-term family experience will see part of Kids on Level 1 being turned into a Dino Classroom as Dino Explorers play fun games, quizzes and tell amazing dinosaur stories, while mini explorers will be taken on a prehistoric journey and invited to handle real fossils, including a T-rex claw, Velociraptor head and real dino poop.

Sam Watts, general manager at Selfridges Birmingham, said: “We’re really looking forward to this family-friendly event that celebrates the arrival of such an iconic dinosaur skeleton, which is touring the UK for the first time. It’s also great that Dippy arrives just a week before the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”

In addition to offering the official Dippy soft toy, the department store is also stocking a wide range of merchandise, including pocket money toys, plush toys, diecast collections and jigsaws, for Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, which goes on general release in the UK on June 6.

Destination Dinosaur experience takes place on May 30 and 31 between 11am and 4pm. Places for the one-hour experience are free but tickets must be booked for each child.
