Selfridges Birmingham invites customers to unwind in their window.

In a world that is fast-changing and increasingly fraught, Selfridges Birmingham is inviting people to slow down and unwind in their windows as it hosts Our House, a deluxe celebration of the rituals of home and comfort.

Anchored in Selfridges’ illustrious heritage and referencing the perennially relevant discussion about house vs home, Our House will explore the question: “What does home mean to you?”. Our House will consider some of this question’s multiple answers in true interactive, enlightening and original Selfridges style.

As part of this unique experience, which will focus on the domestic routines of rest, gather, play and cleanse, customers will have the opportunity to indulge, relax, pause and reflect.

Sam Watts, general manager at Selfridges Birmingham, said: “When Harry Gordon Selfridge founded the store in 1909, he did so with two messages: that the store was open to the world and that everyone was welcome. We’ve stuck to those principles ever since and every day we invite our customers to feel at home.

“Our House revisits the original definition of the store as ‘the House’, a place of respite, relaxation and contentment. While the concept of what makes a home is shifting, Selfridges will always be a place where people can feel at home.”

Customers are encouraged to turn off their phone and refocus their minds in true style as they escape the hustle and bustle of the city for five minutes in the Selfridges’ display window. Available between 12pm and 6pm on Saturday, June 3, customers can put their feet up, put on wireless headphones and push the pause button on their day.

“We often forget to switch off and slow down, but with our Our House events, we want people to remember how important it is to reconnect with themselves and relax,” added Sam Watts.

The first to kick off the Selfridges’ window display while kicking up their heels is the cast of My Fair Lady which will be debuting at the New Alexandra Theatre next month. The actors will be taking a break from their busy rehearsal schedule to pause in the iconic display window on Saturday 3rd June.

The Birmingham BMOS Musical Theatre Company is bringing the classic musical production back to the UK’s second city for the first time in over a decade.  The BMOS reigns as one of the oldest non-professional acting companies in the Midlands and is celebrating its 131st year.

My Fair Lady will be running from Tuesday 20th until Saturday 24th June.
