Share Your Moon Memories!

50 years after the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, MAC Associate Company Little Earthquake is joining forces with Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) and the University of Birmingham to celebrate this special anniversary in spectacular style.

MoonFest is a nine-day programme of Moon-inspired events, performances, screenings and activities created with artists, academics and audience members.

MoonFest will position Birmingham as a place for looking back at a dramatic period in human endeavour and looking ahead at the future of our place in the universe. The Festival is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to capture, commission and celebrate local responses to this iconic global event.

One of the Festival’s flagship events is Moon Memories, a social history project which invites the public to share their memories of the historic Moon landing in 1969, if they’re old enough to remember it first-hand — or their opinions about it, if they’re not quite old enough to have been there in 1969!

As well as looking back, Moon Memories is also encouraging people to look forward, sharing their thoughts on our relationship with space and the future possibilities for returning to the Moon or travelling to distant stars and planets — which is something everyone seems to have an opinion about!

Moon Memories Lead Artist, Birmingham-based writer and theatre-maker Rochi Rampal, will help to gather these contributions and transform them into a very special free exhibition which will take place at MAC as part of MoonFest (Fri 19th — Wed 24th July.)

Rochi will be also be part of a free MoonFest Artist Talk at MAC (Sun 21st July, 4pm – 5pm) — and after the festival, the exhibition will be turned into a digital archive which will be permanently available to view online.

Little Earthquake would love to hear from people who have general memories or thoughts to share — or you can also see a list of questions that people can respond to by visiting www.little-earthquake.com/moonmemories

These contributions can take lots of different forms — stories, memories and anecdotes; video or audio recordings; photographs or significant objects — something precious from a personal archive or an individual response capturing thoughts and ideas.
