The Fort Shopping Park Announces New Charity Partnership With Alzheimer’s Society

Birmingham based shopping park, The Fort, is partnering with dementia charity, the Alzheimer’s Society throughout 2019, to support in raising funds and helping drive awareness for the degenerative disease, which is now the leading cause of death in England and Wales.

The Fort will be hosting and actively participating in a number of customer fundraising events at the shopping park, including the Alzheimer Society’s Cupcake Day on June 13th, where members of the retail team will be baking (or faking) to sell cupcakes to customers and raise funds for the charity.

Marjan Horne, Centre Manager at The Fort Shopping Park comments: “Here at The Fort Shopping Park, we are delighted to be working with the Alzheimer’s Society as our new charity partner. The charity’s cause is something very close to many of our team member’s hearts, and we commend the hard work the charity is doing to tackle Alzheimer’s and support those affected. We are passionate about getting involved and what we can achieve in support.”

The out of city retail destination will also be hosting a month long campaign in September for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, with fun fundraising activities, Alzheimer awareness staff training for retailers, alongside starting to implement permanent onsite changes, which will ensure the shopping park is delivering a dementia friendly shopping environment.

The Fort, which is currently undergoing an extensive on-site redevelopment, implementing new stores, modern glass frontages and vibrant landscaping to further enhance its customer experience and facilities on offer, has already launched a number of the new look stores following the opening of JD and Tessuti in October 2018. The development will continue until September 2021, with further retailer news soon to be announced.

Ryan Stanley, Community Fundraiser for Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire says, “We are delighted that The Fort will be supporting Alzheimer’s Society throughout 2019 as their charity partnership. Dementia devastates lives and Alzheimer’s Society research shows that 850,000 people in the UK have a form of dementia, 70,000 of these people live in the West Midlands. The money donated and awareness raised by The Fort will help Alzheimer’s Society fund research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of all types of dementia and Alzheimer’s Society is committed to spending at least £150 million on research over the next decade. This includes a £50 million investment in the UK’s first dedicated Dementia Research Institute.”
