School Half Term in Leicestershire this year runs from 21st-25th February. If you’re a little stuck for activities to keep the kids entertained, or just fancy doing something a bit different, we’ve got a few suggestions for you:
The National Space Centre has over 150 interactive experiences, 6 hands-on galleries, a 42 metre high rocket tower and the UK’s largest planetarium- the Space Theatre. A fantastic all weather attraction for visitors of any age to learn about the universe around us.
The Space Crew recommend a minimum of 4 hours for your visit to make sure you get to see everything including the We Are Astronomers show in the Space Theatre, narrated by David Tennant.
Children under 5 can visit for free. For full list of events, prices and how to book visit www.spacecentre.org.uk
There’s also a massive range of creative and cultural events happening all around the City and county during the half term. One Leicester absolutely loads of information about how kids can get involved with parkour, DJing, sports and fitness and tons of other activities:

For those budding young writers out there, the Spark Children’s Festival are holding their annual story-writing competition. Inspired by David Walliams’ ‘Mr Stink’, this year’s theme is “Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover” and Spark’s brief is as follows:
“We all make decisions about each other based on how we look – but have you ever got it wrong? That someone you thought was one thing was actually something completely different – a scary teacher who was really kind or a quiet old gran who was a special agent!
Let your imagination go wild and write us a story about a deceptive appearance – about a character whose appearance to the outside world is different to their real selves. Maybe they’re hiding something exciting and fantastical or something funny, sad or even bad!
Tell us how they look and behave and describe the life they appear to lead as well as their inner, real life and the person they really are. What happens when people find out the truth?”
Each entry needs to be a MAXIMUM of 500 words and the stories will be judged in two categories; ages 7-12 and ages 13-16. The 10 winning stories will be illustrated and published in a book in October, and the 10 winning writers will win a pair of free tickets to see the stage adaptation of “Mr Stink”, premiering at Curve during the Spark Festival 2011.
