SWEET RELIEF: Coventry Bid Give Eggcellent Donation To Local Foodbank

Due to the current situation with regards to COVID-19 and the latest advice from the government, Coventry Business Improvement District made the decision yesterday to cancel their Easter events programme in the city centre for 2020.

Preparations for the weekend were well underway with chocolate already having been purchased for the event and rather than let the 500+ Cadbury’s Crème Eggs and 15 bags of mini chocolate eggs go to waste, the team have given back to the community and donated the chocolate to the Trussell Trust, Coventry Food Bank in this time of need.

Since meeting with Dee, the BID team are looking at other ways they and the BID Businesses may be able to assist during these times of uncertainty.

Trish Willetts, BID Director, said: “Cancelling the event is not something we have done lightly however feel it is in the interest of public safety, especially given the family nature of the planned events.”

In this time of need, we didn’t want the treats to go to waste and the decision to donate and support the Coventry Foodbank was an easy one to make. The Foodbank has seen an increase in demand and a decrease in volunteers due to self-isolation, so any donation and help is vital.

Andy Talbot, BID Chairman, added: “Our absolute priority is to ensure the safety of our visitors and businesses during this time, whatever happens. We are actively seeking regular advice from Public Health England, so we can prepare for any outcome as the situation evolves.”
