Mill Street Pub and Kitchen
We had heard great things about the new pub and kitchen on Mill Street in Oakham so we thought that we would go and check it out. We booked in for Sunday lunch and expected to be impressed. Our expectations were totally exceeded and indeed the whole experience was Epic.
Mill Street Pub & Kitchen has a contemporary and light feel with exposed brickwork, bright furnishings and striking rusted steel bar, that blend with warm traditional bookcases and pictures and smart arm chairs to create a pub that feels lived in, in all the best ways.
The pub’s urban country courtyard garden is as impressive as the inside, offering a tranquil setting for up to 80 customers to unwind over a drink or meal.
So what can you expect from the new addition to Oakham? There is a delicious all-day food menu where customers can expect menus which blend the contemporary and classic, with dishes created from fresh British seasonal produce by talented head chef Nathan Greensmith, as well as amazing breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, with dishes including a British charcuterie board, superfood salad, and Devon prime beef burger.
However, Sundays are special! Mill Street Pub & Kitchen is the home of the family roast with all its fine traditions celebrated, and there is no need for customers to rush out of bed as Sunday lunch is served from 12 noon to 9pm. The pub’s excellent roasts include Devon prime rump of beef, 12 hour Cornish lamb shoulder, pork loin and a flavour-packed sundried tomato and spinach nut roast, all served with roast potatoes, light and fluffy Yorkshire puddings, seasonal vegetables and gravy. Desserts include a comforting crumble with lashings of custard. This simply was the best ever Sunday lunch; everything was cooked fresh and to perfection. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing and it quite simply was an Epic experience.
The drinks menu is extensive with amazing cocktails and mocktails available.
We enjoyed our Sunday lunch experience so much we booked in for dinner the following Saturday night with an overnight stay.
Mill Street houses seven contemporary boutique bedrooms with the stunningly designed rooms featuring walk-in showers, Smart TVs and Elemis toiletries and two with luxurious big baths.Design details also include four poster beds, Icelandic sheepskin throws and 1960s inspired chairs.
Our dinner on Saturday night was simply one of the best we have ever had, outside of London. Everything was cooked to perfection and our waiter was fun, friendly and helpful with all of the dishes and accompanying wine choices.
After a wonderful dinner in the stunning dining room, we adjourned to the beautiful bar area to enjoy coffee and after dinner drinks before retiring to our cosy and contemporary room for the best night’s sleep. The room was well appointed, comfortable and extremely stylish. The walk in shower was luxurious and the Elemis products divine.
The breakfast menu was again extensive and the eggs royal are highly recommended as well as the typical full English breakfast, although at Mill Street nothing is typical. The portion sizes were generous and everything was cooked to order.
Mill Street’s general manager Sean McGuirk, adds: “We are really looking forward to welcoming local people to Mill Street and bringing everyone together in this fantastic new pub.”
We simply cannot recommend Mill Street Pub and Kitchen enough. For a pit stop between shopping or a wonderful evening out, there truly is something for everyone.
