Bumper Spring At Belgrade Theatre
With a festive chill in the air and the promise of mince pies, late night shopping trips and Christmas -parties edging ever closer, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre is already looking ahead to Spring and a bumper season of great entertainment combining the best in home-produced drama with an exciting programme of touring shows including everything from top West End musicals to family favourites, classic comedies, award-winning concert shows and much more.
Fans of theatrical intrigue can look forward to a bumper season of murder mystery kicking off with a visit from Shane Ritchie and Jessie Wallace, better known as EastEnders’ odd-couple Kat and Alfie Moon, in a darkly comic new staging of the Peter James thriller, The Perfect Murder. And talking of dead good, look out for brand new stagings of the classic thrillers Dial M For Murder from Tues 26 – Sat 30 Jan, hard-hitting crime drama Get Carter from Tues 22 – Sat 26 Mar and the stage premiere production of Heartbeat from Mon 11 – Sat 16 April featuring original TV cast members David Stockwell and Gina Ward.
For the perfect post-Xmas pick-me-up, you can’t beat a classic Moliere comedy and this Spring, the Belgrade is thrilled to present The Sisterhood from Sat 30 Jan – Sat 20 Feb. Relocated in time from the 17th Century to 1980s France, this wonderfully witty comedy of marriage and manners, based on Molière’s classic satire Les Femmes Savantes is brought to life afresh in Ranjit Bolt’s brilliantly astute and hilariously-observed adaptation.
Sex, scandal and showbiz combine in glamorous new 1940s musical Miss Nightingale from Tues 9 – Sat 13 Feb, a brand new show jam-packed with vintage pizzazz set against the perilous backdrop of war-torn London. From Tues 23 – Sat 27 Feb, Loose Women favourite Lisa Maxwell steps into the shoes of musical legend Judy Garland in the West-End smash End of the Rainbow, a fiercely funny and emotionally charged play charting Judy’s explosive London comeback at the height of the swinging sixties and set to a stirring live soundtrack of some of Garland’s most memorable songs.
There’s plenty of theatrical fun for families too with a brand new adaptation of David Walliams’ best-selling children’s novel Gangsta Granny from Tues 16 – Sat 20 Feb. Plus, you’d be baaaa-rmy to miss Pongo’s Party, an all-new, interactive farmyard adventure featuring the voice of Cbeebies favourite Justin Fletcher as Pongo The Big from Fri 3 – Sat 4 June.
