HOW TO PACK THE PERFECT SUITCASE

HOW TO PACK THE PERFECT SUITCASE

There is a fine art to packing – you have to resist taking all your worldly belongings with you but at the same time you don’t want to spend your holiday dressed in nothing but a swimming costume and flip flops. LISA PIDDINGTON, from Harvey Nichols Birmingham, offers advice on packing the perfect suitcase.

Apply the three-in-one rule: For every bottom you pack, take three tops to create different looks. Take four bottoms – a mix of shorts, skirts and cropped trousers – for a week-long holiday and five for a fortnight away.

No more than three pairs of shoes – no matter how long the trip: If you’re going somewhere hot you just need a pair of pretty flip flops or sliders, some dressy sandals and a pair of comfortable pumps for sightseeing.

Dresses are ideal for a capsule wardrobe: Take light dresses that can be scrunched into the corner of your case. Take three at the most –a beach dress and two dressier ones.

Accessories that add wow: A great way to add va va voom to a wardrobe of basics. Oversized sunglasses add Jackie O glamour while beaded necklaces rock tribal chic. Pack small items in your shoes to keep them safe and to save room.
