Wine Tasting with Siofra O’Brien

Harvey Nichols Wine Specialist SIOFRA O’BRIEN recommends three bottles that should definitely be on your must-try wine list.

Whether it’s Grenache in France or Garnacha in Spain, add this tasty grape variety to your 2018 “to try” list. From great-tasting whites to intense dessert wines, there really is a tipple for every taste.

Reverte Garnacha Blanca 2016, £13.50: This wonderfully approachable wine is created by the Sanz family in the Navarra region, north east of Rioja. Lower acidity makes this Grenache Blanc soft and wonderfully drinkable, with citrus, peach and apricot notes. Pair with fresh pasta dishes, lemon roasted chicken, herby salads, halloumi or feta.

Reverte Garnacha 2016, £12: This red is dry on the palate but is well worth trying. It bursts with clean, high intensity aromas of red fruit as well as black pepper and earthy notes. I love its juicy and fresh taste and it works great with a flavour-filled pasta, carpaccio or tuna tartare.

Domaine Pouderoux Maury 2014, £17.50: This powerful dessert wine is made from old vines of Grenache Noir and boasts intense notes of black cherries, blackberries jam and a hint of liquorice. The perfect partner with blue cheese, vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate.
