We all try to do our best when looking after our skin, especially as we get older. Diet, living and working in the city, sun worship and pollution all take their toll so when Dermacare invited me to their clinic to assess the damage I’d done to my skin with a full face scan I was not really looking forward to the results. There’s always good news after the bad news though as I discovered they have the perfect range of products designed to repair damaged skin writes Lilith Hunt Sheppard as she puts her face into the hands of the professionals.

The Dermacare Salon, at Stoughton Grange, bridges the gap between a beauty salon and a treatment clinic offering a range of services and products that are classified as ‘cosmeceutical’. They basically act as a centre for problem skin; from helping acneprone or oily skin to non-invasive treatments like facial peels and Dermaroller treatments, the salon uses a range of cosmeceutical products that have been scientifically proven to work. It’s not just in salon treatments they focus on though, the team are also on hand to create a bespoke at-home skincare regime specifically designed to meet your needs and complement your treatments.

Upon arrival at the clinic I was welcomed by therapist Kate Farrier, who immediately sat me down and explained the process to me along with its benefits. Firstly I was put in the ‘skin scanner’ – a UV illuminated dish that magnifies and highlights your skins imperfections and general condition. It was with some trepidation that I surveyed the results but Kate was positive, pointing out the good bits as well as the bad and suggesting solutions for those problem parts!

The analysis of my skin enabled Kate to create a completely tailored skin care regime for me to follow at home with recommendations for treatments and products that would be best for me. We started with a daily skincare regime, which would then be complemented by salon-based treatments to resolve any issues or improve general skin condition. The whole process has been a real eye-opener – you rarely consider the damage to your skin. However, a visit to Dermacare salon is the first step on the road to healthier skin and a better skincare routine, as I really do know exactly what I need to do both at home and in the salon. The results? Great skin takes time, so watch this space and see!
