A joint campaign between Loughborough Endowed Schools and the Rempstone Fundraising Committee has raised a total of £5,000 for the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC).
Due to open in 2018, the state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility at the Stanford Hall Estate will provide purpose-built accommodation for military personnel, with a focus on both their physical and mental wellbeing.
The project, which aims to create a world-leading clinical rehabilitation centre for the armed forces, has taken three years to build and will cover over 43,000m².
Jim Doherty, Chief Operating Officer at Loughborough Endowed Schools, explained that they were keen to support the centre:
“The DNRC will be a world-leading facility for the rehabilitation of our military personnel. This is a cause which is close to the hearts of so many and we’re really proud to be able to help the Rempstone Fundraising Committee in raising a great total for the centre.
“It was great to get the local community involved in the fundraising efforts, we volunteered at the Beer and Curry Evening held in Rempstone and hosted a charity concert at Fairfield Preparatory School. Both of these events had a superb attendance and we were delighted with the response.”
The charity concert featured performances by the Cottesmore Military Wives Choir; musical comedy duo Smith and Sergeant; and Luke Wigman, an ambassador for the DNRC injured while serving in Afghanistan, who spoke about the importance of rehabilitation for injured service personnel.
