The Griffin Gears Up For Autumn

The Griffin Gears Up For Autumn

Set in the heart of the Charnwood Forest between Bradgate Park and Swithland Woods, The Griffin Inn is the jewel in the crown of the Odd John Group.

Built around 1700, The Griffin Inn – as it is now – was originally the Griffin Hotel and has been put to several uses in its long history including brewery, bakery and village mortuary!  In Victorian times, an annual village fair was held outside the pub on the Feast of St Leonard in November.

Since being taken on by the Cooledge family, this historically-significant building has been lovingly renovated (and extended) making it more than a bit special, now boasting traditional village pub, luxury wedding and events space and even an award-winning deli/café.  In a sense, it has been restored to its glory days bringing relaxed dining with a laid-back country style with open fires, a warm welcome and, importantly for us country folk, a dog-friendly policy that attracts locals and visitors alike.

The Griffin Inn, led by chef Gavin Smith, is passionate about supporting local business and using local produce wherever possible: their game, including Venison, is sourced from Bradgate Road, just down the road, for example.  It doesn’t get fresher than that!  This attention to detail is also evident across its wider seasonal menus and specials board, meaning The Griffin Inn is not only perfect for special occasions, but for any time you want home-style cooking and comfort food.

In addition to The Griffin Inn is the newly refurbished, Old Stables, which provides a perfect, standalone space for events as varied as corporate showcases – such as the recent Burleigh’s Gin event featured opposite – to parties, wakes, weddings and all things in between.  Call them for details.

As mentioned, The Griffin Inn has successfully launched its own brand ” Odd John” in recent years.  This has not only spawned a deli in Quorn, but also on-site in Swithland, offering Odd-John branded store-cupboard goodies, home-cooked food, freshly baked cakes and an award-winning Afternoon Tea.

Why not give The Griffin Inn a try this Autumn?  You’d be ‘odd’ not to.
