Internationally Acclaimed Artist Coming to Leicester

Artist Mackenzie Thorpe, one of the best-selling British contemporary artists, continues his 30th anniversary celebrations in July, when his UK tour reaches Whitewall Gallery in Leicester.

The gallery will be displaying his internationally acclaimed work from June 20 – July 20. A spectacular celebration of Mackenzie’s artwork, the exhibition is a chance to see new original pieces and sculptures, as well as the chance to meet Mackenzie himself from 12pm – 2pm on July 6 in the gallery.

The exhibition, titled Mackenzie Thorpe: From the Heart, will showcase pictures from his iconic portfolio depicting love, hope and his industrial heritage. The exhibition will also feature images from Mackenzie’s official collection for the Tour de Yorkshire 2019, including Riding with Grandad, and Yorkshire Coast.

This 30th anniversary tour marks a significant moment for the artist in what is an extraordinary year. As well as being official artist for the Tour de Yorkshire, he has unveiled a public sculpture at the Tees Transporter Bridge to nationwide acclaim and is touring America and Japan, while he is also the artist for Welcome to Yorkshire garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

In 1989 Mackenzie chose to move with his family back to Yorkshire and become a professional artist, part of a journey that has taken him from the shipyards of Middlesbrough to a global phenomenon with work hanging in the  Queens collection as well as on the walls of everyday people both in this country and internationally. Through all of this Mackenzie has retained his sense of pride for Yorkshire with his North East connections hugely evident in his art.

Mackenzie Thorpe said: “I can hardly believe it is thirty years since I first started selling my work, so much has happened  in that time and this 30th year feels like a special moment to reflect on all those years and celebrate! Along the way I have met so many amazing people, travelled to places I never dreamed I would visit and all because of my art.  I have already started the tour in America and Japan and now I am starting the UK leg and am really looking forward to meeting everyone at Whitewall Gallery in July.

“It’s going to be a great event and an opportunity to introduce the 30th collection as well as  thank everyone who has supported me over the years.”
