Leicester Restaurant Launches Rhubarb and Orange Gin

Developed and distilled in Leicestershire, North42 Rhubarb and Blood Orange Gin was inspired by the passion of its creators, Sally & Joanna who run North Bar & Kitchen, one of the city’s best fine dining restaurants.

One of only a handful of restaurants to have ever taken the bold move to design and distill their own gin, having successfully raised the money to produce the first batch by crowdfunding, the team presented their amazing success story at the Natwest ‘Back Her Business’ event.

Sally Davis talked about her ultimate goal being to see her own gin on sale in Selfridges, because of the prestige and quality of the brand speaking to the quality of her own product. Incredibly, the general manager of Selfridges Birmingham was in the room and sufficiently impressed with the product that she offered North42 a pop-up shop to stock the gin there and then.

The inspiration for the fruity gin came from the bar’s best-selling cocktail creation, the Rhubarb Tumble. This cocktail combines rhubarb gin with an orange liqueur to create a refreshing treat. In this new gin, aromatic blood orange and the punchy tartness of the best English rhubarb combine to create an interplay of perfumed fruit flavours, underpinned by a carefully curated blend of botanicals. The robust 42% alcohol gives a delicious structure to each sip.

Drink on its own as a sipping gin, or let your imagination run wild to develop a luxurious long drink, we recommend a gin & tonic garnished with dehydrated orange slices, or served long with a ginger ale mixer and a slither of fresh ginger as a final flourish.
