Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team head into the final BT Super Series Division One this weekend with a chance to win the league for the first time in the club’s history.

Having already qualified for the BT National Championship – featuring the top six teams in the country – Tigers can make history with a top-spot finish in the league programme.

Tigers are two points clear of second-placed West Coast Crash after finishing first and third in the previous Super Series weekends.

This week’s two-day tournament at Leicester Arena will see Tigers take on West Coast Crash, Gaelic Warriors and LWRC Crusaders in Pool A on Saturday (February 24), with the final and third-place play-off the following day.

Tigers head coach Darren Matthews hopes the club will keep up their good form and said: “We’re enjoying a great season. I think we made the right decision in consolidating our two teams from last season into one for this season and we’re stronger for that.

“The added incentive of winning the league is a great motivation and we’ve been putting in the preparation over the past few weeks.

“We’ve introduced plays and drills picked up from our Team GB links and we’re able to develop these across our squad. We can’t wait for the weekend!”

Four Tigers players have also been called up to the Great Britain team for next month’s Quad Nations tournament at Leicester Arena (March 9-11).

Head coach Matthews added: “We’re proud of the lads who have been selected and wish them all the best, but our focus is this weekend and making sure we put in a good performance heading into the National Championships.”

Entry to the Super Series this weekend is free and the action gets under way at the Leicester Arena from 9.00am each day.
