Nominations are now open for the 2019 East Midlands Women’s Awards, an annual award ceremony that highlights and celebrates the impact women make here in the East Midlands.

The prestigious East Midlands Women’s Awards (EMWA), which is now in its third year, recognises and celebrates women who have made an outstanding contribution to society.

This year’s gala ceremony will be held at stunning Colwick Hall in Nottingham on Friday 11th October.

The event will be hosted by BBC Radio Leicester presenters Rupal Rajani and Dave Andrews, with special guests the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir John Peace, and Lady Peace.

Rupal Rajani, said: “I think these awards are incredibly important. The enormous contribution women make in our society is very often overlooked, so I’m proud to be involved in an event that celebrates them.”

Since its 2017 inaugural event, the EMWA has gone from strength to strength, apparent this year with the addition of three new award categories which celebrate women working in the Education, Care Services sectors and Senior Executive roles.  In 2018 the awards enjoyed a 30% increase in nominations and a 63% increase in attendance.

Award candidates are all peer-nominated and represent a wide-range of award categories, including ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’, ‘Outstanding Woman in Education’, and ‘Outstanding Woman with Community Impact’. All nominees are evaluated against a set of criteria by a panel of judges that examines the difference and impact each woman has made. This year’s nominations close on Saturday 14th September.

Sandra Pollock, Founder of the EMWA, said: “I established the awards to showcase the outstanding work these amazing women do in our communities and throughout our local businesses. They proudly represent a wide spectrum of sectors, backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and ages, and I believe they deserve to be recognised.

“I’m delighted to have Rupal Rajani who is an award-winning presenter, and Dave Andrews who was recently honoured to be commissioned as a Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, as this year’s hosts. It’s going to be an incredible evening.”

The 2019 awards’ headline sponsor is Glynis Wright & Co Family Solicitors – Glynis was the winner of the ‘East Midlands Inspirational Female Leader’ in 2017.
