Loughborough Grammar School scoops marketing campaign of the year

An innovative marketing campaign, which involved following a pupil on their seven-year journey at Loughborough Grammar School, has been recognised at the prestigious TES Independent School Awards 2018.

Designed to give parents an insight into life at Loughborough Grammar School, part of Loughborough Endowed Schools Foundation, Affixxius Films and the marketing team created a four-minute film called Tom’s Journey. In the film, Tom discusses his hopes, aspirations and experiences in a series of interviews.

Work on the project began when Tom was just 11-years-old and finished when he left the school at the age of 18, having joined the RAF with the goal of becoming an officer.

At the glittering awards ceremony, held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London, judges praised the ‘bravery’ of the film, adding that it is ‘an inspirational, forward-looking and brave campaign which resonates with parents of children at every stage in their school career’.

Speaking afterwards, Duncan Byrne, Headmaster at Loughborough Grammar School, said:

“Marketing is, by its nature, a fast-paced activity, and there is often a pressing need to deliver near-immediate returns.

“However, we saw real value in a long-term project that would allow people to truly engage with one pupil at the school. It works on such a personal level, and I’d like to thank Affixxius and the marketing team for their creative concept and of course Tom, for all his many wonderful contributions to the project over the years.”

He added that everyone involved in the filming had enjoyed the experience – and credited it with boosting applications.

In 2016, work began on another film following three pupils throughout their time at Loughborough Grammar School, and staff hope that it will bring similar success.

Formerly the Times Educational Supplement, TES is one of the UK’s most respected education publications. Author, broadcaster, actor and entertainer Gyles Brandreth hosted this year’s TES Independent School Awards, which attracted more than 400 guests.
