New family bedroom celebrates Leicester’s famous connection to discovery of King Richard III

The Belmont Hotel, the 80 year old, family-owned independent hotel in Leicester, has officially opened a new Richard III-themed family bedroom to celebrate Leicester’s high profile connection with the discovery and subsequent reburial of the last Plantagenet king of England in the city.

The Richard III room was opened by Philippa Langley MBE, who led the search for King Richard III through her original Looking For Richard Project.

Philippa said: “I’m incredibly honoured to be opening the Richard III themed room at the Belmont as it is my ‘home away from home’ in Leicester. I stayed at the hotel for the dig and discovery, the identification and the reburial. As a result, it is mentioned in the account of my seven and a half year search for the king in the car park in: The King’s Grave: The Search for Richard III. I hope the themed room will help increase interest in this much maligned monarch for the many visitors to the hotel so that they too may wish to discover more about him, and so that they too can enjoy a really friendly and family run hotel!”

Eloic Montagnier, General Manager at The Belmont Hotel added: “The King Richard III room will take guests back to the days of the Battle of Bosworth when Richard III became the last English King to be killed in battle. We’re delighted that Philippa, who played such an important role in the remarkable discovery of the King, could officially open the room for us and look forward to welcoming visitors to stay in the room and experience it for themselves.”
