The Empire Needs You - The Dark Side Invades the National Space Centre

Word has reached the National Space Centre that a Star Destroyer has departed for the Leicester based science and discovery centre, with a whole legion of Stormtroopers and well known characters from the Star Wars universe.

Now in its eleventh year, the Return of the Garrison event, hosted at the National Space Centre, brings together the world’s largest costuming groups, stars of the movies, games, props, sets, costumes and even an opportunity to learn the ways of the Force with a Jedi Master.

The Centre’s galleries will host a special costume exhibition, dedicated to one of the movies most loved stars, Princess Leia.

Large scale sets will also be on display, including a recreation of the very first part of the Star Wars world we saw, the Tantive spacecraft, where Darth Vader and his troops capture the Rebel ship.

As well as the Tantive set, there will be an area dedicated to a recreation of the Emperor’s Throne Room and a Pod Racer, similar to that used by Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace.

Visitors will be able to meet over 100 of their favourite characters, including actors such as the much loved Warwick Davis, who played Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi and has gone on to star in the new Star Wars movies, as well as Harry Potter and Willow.

In addition, there will be talks, workshops, a LEGO Star Wars set display and build area, models from original and new trilogy, droids from the movies and even the opportunity to meet an Ewok or two.

The event is hosted in aid of charity and this year will raise funds for Little People UK.
