DITCH THE DRINK!

Whether you’re the one in charge of the car keys or just fancy an abstemious night out, here’s the answer to what to drink when you’re not drinking. KATIE SAYERS, Foodmarket manager at Harvey Nichols Birmingham, reveals the most palatable tipples guaranteed to leave you hangover free.

Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic water, £1.75: Made with a blend of essential oils from a range of flowers, fruits and herbs from around the Mediterranean, with the highest quality quinine from the fever trees of the eastern Congo.

Harvey Nichols non-alcoholic sparkling Chardonnay, £10: This refreshing non-alcoholic sparkling wine is made by Maggie Beer from the juice of Chardonnay grapes. Best enjoyed chilled and served in a Champagne flute, it also makes a great alcohol-free spritzer with mineral water and crushed mint.

Harvey Nichols raspberry and mint tonic water, £1.50: Created in the tiny Aberdeenshire’s parish of Pitsligo, there’s no artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or preservatives. Tart berry fruit on the nose evokes summer scrumping, before leading to a crisp finish reminiscent of fresh mint tea.

Rosemary Water sparkling water, £3.95: With just two ingredients – ethically sourced pure rosemary botanical extract and pure spring water – you’ll find no additives, sugar or artificial sweeteners. The aroma is most certainly fragrant, but the flavour is more subdued, resulting in a refreshing finish.

Seedlip Spice 94, £28.95: The world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirit; this is an aromatic and earthy blend of copper-pot distillates, including allspice, cardamom and lemon. It is crafted in a similar manner to a gin, just without the alcohol, and has no added sugar or sweeteners. Perfect with tonic and a grapefruit twist.

Seedlip Garden 108, £28.95: The second release from Seedlip is a green and floral blend of handpicked peas and hay with spearmint, rosemary and thyme. Mix with bitter lemon or tonic; it’s the refreshing choice for a sin-free sip.

The London Essence Company rhubarb and cardamom soda water, £1.95: A precise blend of rhubarb and natural cardamom contributes to the rounded body and subtle vanilla aroma of this tasty soda. Cardamom distillate adds slightly spiced notes as the initial taste of sweet candied berries gives way to a dry finish.

Thomas & Evans No1, £3.95: Named after Mr William Thomas and Mr William Evans who produced non-alcoholic drinks during the growing temperance times of the 1880s, this captures the quality of their classic drinks for a new generation.
