The New Breed of Rosés

Rosé wine is certainly having its moment, shrugging off its one-time negative reputation to become the drink of choice for the millennial generation.

We asked the Wine Shop team at HARVEY NICHOLS BIRMINGHAM to reveal their favourites bottles, each one guaranteed to go down well whatever the occasion.

Chateau Minuty M de Minuty Limited Edition Ruby Taylor Rosé 2018, £18.50

With a bottle designed by artist Ruby Taylor, this special release is this season’s most fashionable rosé. Capturing the retro buzz and popping colour palette of Saint-Tropez, it’s bursting with notes of blood orange, wild strawberry, redcurrant and pink grapefruit. Unite with lashings of sunshine, Breton stripes and oversized sunglasses.

Harvey Nichols Corbières Rosé 2018, £11.50

This own-label rosé is graced with subtle, engaging notes of dried flora, red fruit and mixed herbs, leading to understated flavours of raspberry ripple, strawberry shortcake and an assortment of regional spices. A versatile accompaniment to lightly flavoured shellfish, poultry and pasta dishes.

Château Léoube Love by Léoube Rosé 2018, £22

The Daylesford Organic-owned winery makes this pretty pink wine; it’s an understated masterclass in Provence rosé, brimming with white peach, tangy raspberries and wild strawberries. Complement with poached salmon and buttered Jersey Royals or Caprese salad, seared tuna and asparagus.

Naciente Pinot Noir Rosé 2018, £10.50

Pinot Noir may have earned its legendary status for red Burgundy, sparkling wines and Champagne but few winemakers turn this notoriously tricky, but naturally delicate grape variety into rosé. Step forward Naciente, a brand new and vegan-friendly Pinot Noir Rosé with notes of strawberry, raspberry, spring blossom, summer flowers and a pinch of spice.

La Calcinara Mun Rosé 2016, £19.50

A wonderfully textured Italian pink has a pinky-orange tone reminiscent of peaches, and delicate hints of strawberry Pavlova, rhubarb and custard boiled sweets, wild thyme and honey-drizzled apricots. It’s exquisitely food-friendly and perfect paired with favourite risotto, ceviche or gnocchi with Romesco sauce.

Alpha Estate Rosé 2017, £23.50

Receiving huge critical acclaim, this Provençal-style pink comes from Greece’s most high-tech and environmentally friendly estates. It’s a dry and elegant combination of strawberries and cream, rose petals, tangy raspberries and cranberries, sun-dried tomatoes, rhubarb, pepper, spice and just the gentlest hint of rose harissa. As delightful to sip in the sunshine as it is on a cold winter night.
