Sileby resident Andy Yorke plans to complete not one, not two but three epic runs for the National Deaf Children’s Society this year.
Andy kicked off his year of fundraising when he completed the Rutland Half Marathon on Sunday, 14 April, starting and finishing in Barnsdale and circumnavigating Rutland Water, achieving a creditable time of 2 hours 1 minute.
Andy, 47, works at a corporate travel company as a section manager. He lives in Sileby with his wife Sarah. They have two grown up children, Tom, 19, and Olivia, 18.
Andy’s next challenge will be the iconic Great North Run on 8 September and his marathon year will finish with the Leicester Half Marathon on 6 October.
Andy said: “I decided to support the National Deaf Children’s Society when I looked into the work you do as a charity and realised how good a cause it is. So when looking at doing the half marathons it made sense to try and raise some money for you.
“I’ve been running now for about a year and the Leicester run last year was my first half marathon ever. Now I have the bug for it I’m doing three this year – and then who knows what next year will bring!”
John Larkin, who supports fundraisers like Andy at the National Deaf Children’s Society, said:
“We can’t thank Andy enough for his exertions on our behalf. Deaf children across the UK are growing up with the support they need because of the fundraising that people like Andy have done for us.”
