Black and White, they’re the ultimate symbolic colours of CHANEL and Lucia Pica, CHANEL Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer has explored and reinterpreted these classic tones for the brands latest beauty collection.
Already lusting over the elegance and glamour of the products, Dluxe’s Francesca Arculeo sat down with Make-up artist and CHANEL Beauty ambassador Zoe Taylor to find out more and how each product is wearable for both day and night.
“The thing about the collection is, whilst it is black and white, it’s not your standard black and white and so it makes it really wearable!”
The collection comprises of eight products with a number of them in limited edition shades and can easily be identified for the eyes, lips and nails.
“My favourite products are the OMBRE PREMIÈRE TOP COATS and they of course are in the classic black and white packaging. These can be worn on their own or on top a look that you’re doing and they create this incredible kind-of liquid metal finish and work great on top of a smokey eye! These are probably my most favourite because it’s a formula we haven’t seen before at Chanel and it’s a very unusual because you cannot use a brush with it, you have to use your fingers. The more you use these the more they change their formulation within your palette and they become this more creamy based product. They are so heavenly to use!” Zoe adds.
Alongside the OMBRE PREMIÈRE TOP COATS (RRP £28), there are also two LES 4 OMBRES (RRP £45) palettes in Modern Glamour and Noir Supreme with smoky pigments to create a variety of eye looks.
“Lucia has created this collection in a way that is a brand-new take on formulas and standard smoky eyes, we’ve got this beautiful palette with a burgundy eye shadow. Everything has gold flecks in like the reflection on the lights on the buildings of Paris”.
A staple in most makeup bags, The LE VOLUME ULTRA-NOIR DE CHANEL (RRP £28) mascara is sure to become a cult classic as Zoe declares “it makes your lashes look like they’re fake”.
What took us by surprise is the new shade of STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF (RRP £22) in Blanc Graphic, a soft white eyeliner that can be worn everyday on the waterline or to create bold graphic looks. “They’re really creamy and waterproof and they can also be used as an eyeshadow base to amplify your look” Zoe enlightens.
To complete a graphic or smokey eye, two new shades of ROUGE COCO GLOSS (RRP £28) add dramatic shine, and bold but muted shades of ROUGE ALLURE LIQUID POWDER (RRP £31) and ROUGE ALLURE VELVET EXTRÊME (RRP £31) add timeless glamour.
“The lipsticks are seriously matte which is really exciting, they are beautiful. It’s a really good nude colour but wearing it with one of the lip powders is the perfect combination, they have a really velvety finish and somehow keep your lips feeling really moisturised.”
For finishing touches there are two limited edition additions to CHANEL’s classic LE VERNIS (RRP £22) in intense black and optic white to round off the graphic collection.
“We are moving into a different territory of makeup, I think with the trends, we see less of a more formulaic trends of every season coming off the runway, instead we’re seeing that there are no boundaries with makeup. Lucia has been able to make this accessible but in a kind of high fashion way, I can create something incredibly unusual and editorial with this but I can also do makeup on my mum and it look really pretty. There are no boundaries and it’s not frightening.
