BULLRING & GRAND CENTRAL’S HIDDEN SECRET: A BEEHIVE!

Bullring & Grand Central is already home to a very famous Bull and over 20 cats at Kitty Café, and now it has welcomed a new addition; bees.

After teaming up with local beekeeper, Tim Vivian from Bee9 Honey, the centre now has its very own beehive located on the roof on the East side of the mall. This week it’s National Bee Day (20th May 2021), a day dedicated to celebrating the importance of bees as well as spreading awareness of their role in food supply.

By the summer there will be over 50,000 bees in the hive that will produce up to 100 jars of honey.

Danielle Bozward, Marketing Manager at Bullring & Grand Central, commented: “Bees are such important creatures so we’re delighted to be housing our very own hive at the centre. It’s understood that honey bees can remember landmarks to help them find their way back to their hive and we have plenty of those here at Bullring & Grand Central!”

Tim, who also has hives at the Custard Factory, added:  “Unlike London, we don’t have lots of beehives in the city centre, and it is really exciting to be able to put a hive in such an iconic location.  Every hive makes a different flavoured honey, so I am looking forward to tasting the unique flavour of Bullring & Grand Central honey in the autumn.”

Urban Beekeeping has become more popular over the last few years with benefits including a boost to pollination as well as improving sustainability, food security and biodiversity in cities.
