Hallfield School Celebrates 140 Illustrious Years

As Hallfield School celebrates 140 illustrious years and continues to excel at providing a broad and balanced education, they recently announced their expansion into Years 7 and 8 starting September 2020.

Hallfield becomes the only Birmingham co-educational Prep School up to 13 years. Traditionally, pupils entered Public Schools as boarders or day pupils in Year 9. Whilst Hallfield will continue to offer a pathway at 11+ to local independent and selective grammar schools, they know that starting a new senior school at the end of Year 6 is not the right choice for everyone. Many parents feel that at the age of 11 years, their child is not ready to either commute a longer distance or board. Equally, some pupils need more time to mature and develop in the familiar, more secure environment a Prep school can offer.

The curriculum for Hallfield Seniors in Years 7 and 8 is specially designed to be both broad and well-balanced and will give each child a thorough preparation for Year 9 entry into public schools. It will be based on the Key Stage 3 curriculum, whilst offering the opportunity to develop independent learning and research skills. It is envisaged that the children will be able to take full advantage of the cultural and learning opportunities within the Birmingham region and will also undertake residential visits. Through the wider curriculum, senior pupils at Hallfield will be given leadership opportunities to help them not only prepare for their next stage of education, but for life. Additionally, their Enrichment Programme will run in parallel to the curriculum, offering pupils the chance to develop life-long skills to foster independence, resilience, teamwork, entrepreneurship, citizenship and social responsibility. Year 7 and 8 classes are expected to be in the region of 15 pupils per group, enabling individualised and focussed preparation for the Common Entrance exams.

With excellent facilities, extensive grounds and specialist teachers alongside their new STEM curriculum, they are exceptionally well placed to deliver a unique Independent education within the Greater Birmingham area.
