This May, Touchwood Solihull is brimming with events for the whole family to come and enjoy.
From activities supporting well-being during Mental Health Awareness Week to an educational event with Robocode, and a ‘Footie Fest’ during the half term holidays, there is plenty to get involved with.
13-19 May – Mental Health Awareness Week
To acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Week, on Monday 13, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May Touchwood’s Wellbeing Retreat will ‘Go Green’, with all staff dressed in the colour that is the international symbol of mental health awareness and handing out Green Gratitude hearts to guests in the centre.
With the theme of this year’s event being ‘Moving more for our mental health’, Touchwood is putting on a series of free classes and events throughout the week for visitors.
On Tuesday and Friday, free Chair yoga classes will be offered in 20-minute sessions between 11am-1pm on each day.
Wednesday sees Touchwood bring joy through music, with artist Reza Ferrell providing an uplifting hour-long performance to inspire mental wellbeing at 1pm.
Meditative workshops will be on offer on Thursday at the Wellbeing Retreat, with two separate 15-minute sessions available at 11am and 1pm.
27-31 May – Robocode
During the May half term, Solihull-based company Robocode will be putting on an entertaining and educational session for children in Touchwood’s Atrium, to help them discover their spark and inspire future STEM career pathways.
Children from the ages of 6-17 are encouraged to come along and take part in a range of activities to understand the fundamentals of technology, coding, and digital arts.
Activities will include a gaming racing simulation, a robotics coding exercise where children can navigate robots in a map of the local area, a VR experience to enhance spatial awareness, and a 3D modelling exercise where participants can print their creation and take it home.
27-31 May – Footie Fest
Continuing the May half term fun, football fanatics are invited down to Touchwood for ‘Footie Fest’ – a week-long programme of activities in partnership with the Solihull Moors Foundation.
The event in Theatre Square allows children to test their football skills in a wide range of challenges, to see if they are up to the task of becoming a professional footballer.
Five challenges will be set in total with various attributes tested along the way, including shooting, dribbling and speed. When all the challenges are completed, children will receive an overall score, with the best performers earning some exciting prizes as a result of their hard work.
Over the course of the summer, sporting celebrations will continue at Touchwood – with elite competitions such as the 2024 Paris Olympics, the European Championships and the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament just a selection of events jammed into a packed calendar.
To celebrate the array of sporting events during this period, Touchwood will be hosting a number of sport-related activities for shoppers to join in the action.
