Selfridges Birmingham celebrates new children’s footwear department with storytime event

Selfridges Birmingham is celebrating the launch of its new children’s shoe department with a special storytelling day on Saturday 7th March, coinciding with World Book Day.

Part of childrenswear, located on Level 1, will be transformed into a fairytale castle, which will play host to a storyteller paying homage to some of the world’s best-loved children’s authors, including Dr Seuss and B J Novak.

Sam Watson, General Manager of Selfridges Birmingham, said of the event: “It couldn’t have been better timing to launch our newly revamped footwear space, which has expanded to include many more leading brands than ever before. The store is now the best destination for childrenswear in the city and we are excited to launch it with a storytelling event, which promises to capture youngsters’ imaginations and ignite their love of books, in the same week as the annual World Book Day.”

Among the new lines in the children’s shoe department are the Gucci New Ace VL leather trainers, ideal for lovers of Dr Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham, thanks to its signature green and red grosgrain stripes.

Looking for a statement trainer? This Burberry Larkhall checked cotton-gabardine high-top trainer is stamped boldly with the word Burberry – reminiscent of the modern-day classic B J Novak book A Book Without Pictures.

Channel a bit of Lorenzo, The Pizza Loving Pizza by Claire Lordon with these Kurt Geiger London Claude lobster-embroidered slip-on trainers – smart white with red embroidered lobster detail.

Paddington Bear may have had his red wellies, but he’d probably have coveted a pair of red Gucci logo-print rain boots.  These cool and playful boots are bright, have a distinctive zip detail and are practical for little feet.

Alice in Wonderland wore smart shoes in her adventures – so she’d love these Lelli Kelly Gabriella patent-leather shoes with sturdy rubber sole, stitch detailing and rip-tape fastening. The bow applique adds the finishing touch.

No would-be Elsa would be complete without a pair of Mini Melissa Disney Frozen Ultragirl ballerina flats, while when Mickey Mouse needs a new pair of yellow shoes, he could pick up a pair of these Fendi Monster trainers.

Tickets for the storytelling event cost £5, the price for which includes cookies and milk.
There are four 30-minute sessions, starting at noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, and all must be booked via Eventbrite
