Solihull Superstars score sponsorship with housing developer

A team of youth footballers based in Solihull have recently netted a lucrative sponsorship deal with housebuilder Westleigh Partnerships.

The Solihull Superstars under 9s football team has received £450 in sponsorship from the housing developer, which is currently building high-quality affordable homes at its developments across the region.

The deal has covered the cost of facility hire, match day expenses, as well as brand new equipment and playing kits bearing the Westleigh Partnerships logo.

The team’s manager is Tom Bates, a professional coach who has worked with West Bromwich Albion F.C., A.F.C. Bournemouth, Birmingham City F.C. and Brentford F.C.

In addition to his time spent with the Solihull Superstars, Tom currently has a performance role with Aston Villa F.C.

“The team was formed as a vehicle to inspire children and empower them to believe in themselves, and through a process of coaching once a week, we’ve created an environment that’s fun and friendly, as well as competitive.

“The families that are connected with the side have grown since we began, so now we have two teams, and because we work with the players completely free of charge, we rely on sponsorship and small donations to keep going.”

Having formed when the players were seven years of age, the team is now in its third season of the West Warwickshire Youth Football League.

“The team is going from strength to strength in the league and has made it into the County Cup final for the third year running,” continues Tom, “which is amazing considering we started out with just eight players, all of whom were in the same class at school!

“The boys are very proud of themselves and their teammates and it gives me a great sense of meaning to have created something that’s so special. It really is a football family.”

Based at Birmingham Business Park, Gino Siani, Head of New Business in the West Midlands for Westleigh, said: “We hope that sponsorship will help the team in its efforts to uphold the traditional values of sport within the local community,” he said.

“The team promotes the principles of physical endeavour and moral integrity and is dedicated to getting youngsters in the area active.

“Everyone involved with the team enjoys putting smiles on the boys’ faces and I firmly believe that sports has the capacity to positively and profoundly impact upon the lives of young people.

“I hope that this deal comes as a big boost.”

Tom adds: “On behalf of the club, I’m would like to express our gratitude to Gino and Westleigh for their generous contribution.

“The funds that we’ve received will have a lasting impact for the rest of the season, and if they win the cup final, the boys might even let Westleigh borrow the trophy so that it can take pride of place at their offices!

“To anyone who’s interested in getting involved with the team, I’d say that we welcome players of all nationalities and abilities and our spirit is very strong.”
