The Power of Good Design: Prestigious design-house Vitra takes residency at the Mailbox this autumn

Prestigious design-house, Vitra is bringing its international ‘The Original. About the power of good design’ roadshow to Level 1 of the Mailbox in Birmingham from 24th September – 27th October, the perfect museum-like installation for design-lovers.

Following residencies across the globe in London, Manhattan and Luxembourg, the collection of original furniture will come to the Midlands for the first time in a month-long exhibition at the shopping and lifestyle destination.

The roadshow will showcase Vitra originals and tell the stories behind the brand’s most recognisable products. Visitors will be taken on a journey through a presentation of technical drawings, sketches, synthetic resin models and prototypes to explore the full design process behind each iconic piece.

Included in the collection of 11 designs are the timeless Eames Lounge Chair, Eames Plastic Chair and Aluminium Chair, all of which were created by Charles and Ray Eames in the 1950s and remain highly desirable pieces in contemporary homes today. The exhibition will also celebrate the history behind best-selling pieces such as the TipTon chair by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, which boasts an ergonomic, stackable design and is crafted entirely from recycled materials.

Customers can discover their favourite Vitra designs within the Heal’s showroom, which houses the brand’s new Birmingham in-store concession.
