TWO NEW DIGITAL SUMMER SCHOOLS FROM THE REP

With today being International Youth Day, Birmingham Repertory Theatre has launched two new online Summer Schools: Theatre Making for those aged 13-18 and Spy School for ages 7-12.

The online workshops have been created for families with flexibility in mind, allowing young people the chance to take part on a day or time that suits them – fill a couple of days with endless activity, or spread out the fun over the rest of the school holidays.

The Theatre Making sessions include a series of 60-minute bespoke pre-recorded classes with professional tutors plus links to downloadable documents and files to use at home. Spy School comprises a series of videos that allow participants a chance to be a spy for the week, uncovering clues and solving mysteries. All the digital sessions and materials are created by The REP’s industry-leading creative learning team.

Alex Summers, Director of Creative Learning at The REP said; “During the past couple of weeks we have been delivering our series of in-person workshops to young people in a COVID-secure environment here at The REP. Now, we are delighted to offer these workshops to more families than ever before with a new series of specially created online versions of Theatre Making and Spy School – complete with bespoke filmed tutorials and downloadable resource packs.

“The fantastic thing about these workshops is that young people and their families can pick the ideal time for them to take part, there are no restrictions on when you need to tune in or complete the tasks. Simply download and enjoy at your own pace for plenty of theatrical fun this summer.”

Theatre Making for those aged 13-18 explores devising, movement, puppetry, monologues and audition techniques. Spy School for children aged 7-12 is an immersive theatre adventure where young people take on the role of spies to complete training, discover clues and uncover mysteries

Both programmes of online classes have also been made available to West Midlands Virtual Schools’ Connect & Create programme featuring specially selected arts and cultural activity for children & young people in care.
