Coventry Peace Orchard to welcome a very Special guest!

Coventry Peace Orchard will be launching this summers Art in the Orchard festival with a very special guest, Lynval Golding from the Specials who will be joining Councillor Bally Singh to open the new  Peace Orchard mural at Coundon Hall Park on Saturday the 19th June.

The mural painted by local artist Katie O’Sullivan is based on the ideas generated by local school children from Cardinal Newman School and Coventry Park Rangers.

The event forms part of the region wide Warwickshire Open Studios and will feature activities and artworks from a range of local artists,  and is free and open to all.  The Peace Orchard artist in residence Michala Gyetvai will be displaying her work and there will also be an opportunity to sign up to workshops with her to create a giant  peace picnic blanket.

Local organisation Team Springboard will be there to show people a range of crafts and nature based activities , along with work from local artists Andy Farr, Christopher Appleby, Mark Andrews and the director of the Peace Orchard Heather Davison. International Artist Ranbir Kaur will also be installing a giant flower rangoli.

Heather, daughter of the late Peace Orchard founder, Dennis Davison BEM CDG, commented ; ‘We are delighted that Lynval and Councillor Singh will help launch our mural, the day and indeed our exciting line up of events for Art in the Orchard this Summer. We hope that people will take up the opportunity to come and enjoy the very special place which is Coventry Peace Orchard’.

Heather also said, ‘The mural has been made possible by support from Coventry Park Rangers, the City’s Business Improvement District team and Coventry City of Culture Trust for which we are extremely grateful .  It reflects our commitment to the local community, and being able to work with Katie O to bring the mural to life has been an important way to improve the park and the local area.’
