EMBARK ON AN EPIC QUEST TO BECOME A KNIGHT

Families are invited to join Sir Guy of Warwick as he embarks on a quest throughout Coventry to track down his greatest foes and become a Knight.

The quest, which is told through spectacular 3D art, will see participants coming face to face with all manner of medieval beasts which have taken up residence at five locations across Coventry city centre.

The artwork, which is all inspired by the story of Sir Guy, was designed by visual artists 3D  Max & Joe and will be on show throughout the City Centre over the next two weekends (23-25 April and 1-3 May) and timed to start on St George’s Day (Sir Guy was rumoured to be St George’s son) who has alleged links with Coventry. Find out more about St George on the Council’s website.

The artworks will be on show from 9 am – 6pm on these days.

This adventurous and colourful trail is completely free of charge, and people are encouraged to join Sir Guy on his quest to become a Knight and to become one themselves by confronting the various beasts.

To download a map of the trail, please visit the Knight’s Quest webpage. You can also pick one up from the Council House Reception, which is open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday.

To accompany the quest, the Time Will Tell Theatre company have created a video showcasing their dramatic reaction to Sir Guy’s various triumphs. The video can be found online or viewed onsite by scanning a QR code near the artwork at each site

Visitors are also reminded that, while they’re in the city centre, they must strictly adhere to social distancing guidelines, including maintaining a two-metre distance from anyone not in their household and ensuring that they don’t mingle in groups of more than six. Visitors are also asked to follow any instructions on the signage around the artwork. This is designed to ensure that people can view the artwork in a safe manner.

Anyone undertaking the trail is encouraged to share their pictures with the #Knightsquest on social media so everyone can follow along with their quest.

The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Cllr Ann Lucas said: “I am so pleased that we are able to present such an imaginative and creative event here in Coventry. I’m sure everyone will love the artwork and will be gripped by the tale of Sir Guy.

“Lots of our city centre businesses have worked really hard to re-open and be ready to welcome local residents and visitors back. So, I encourage people to take advantage of this and to make the most of their visit to the reopened City Centre.

“However, while we are thrilled to have such an exciting event in the city centre, it’s vitally important that people ensure they can view it as safely as possible. That’s why I want to stress that when you visit Coventry to follow the trail, you must keep following the social distancing guidelines and have no more than six people in your group. Enjoy the Trail!”

While following the trail, residents are encouraged to visit and enjoy many of Coventry’s shops which have now safely re-opened after restrictions have lifted. More details about the other events happening in the city centre can be found on the Visit Coventry website.
