First-Ever Spirit Of Harborough Event To Take Place Over May Bank Holiday.

The first-ever Spirit of Harborough event will take place from Saturday 27 to Monday 29 May 2017, celebrating the wonderful range of artisan alcohol producers locally.

Supporting the recently-launched ‘Taste Harborough’ initiative, Market Harborough will turn into a place of culinary discovery as the Taste Harborough Taste Trail takes over the town. People can buy a map and travel around the town to discover the wonderful local foods and drink available. Taste Harborough was set up by Sustainable Harborough to promote local food and drink businesses across the District.

Throughout the weekend, people can also look out for Spirit of Harborough cocktails and restaurant menu specials supporting the event.

On 29 May, there will be a festival garden party at The Oat Hill Bar and Restaurant in Market Harborough with local food and drink stalls, and live music. Visitors can also travel from The Oat Hill by (return) coach or on foot to various local producers for guided tours, tasting and tutorials including:

  • Welland Valley Vineyard tour and tasting
  • Langton Brewery tasting and tutorial tour
  • The Bottle Kicking Cider Company tour
  • Market Harborough Brewery tour
  • Two Birds Gin

Tickets must be purchased online before the event takes place from

Spirit of Harborough 2017 has been developed and co-ordinated by a partnership between Leicestershire Promotions and Harborough District Council, with support from Andrew Granger & Co and Walkers Pies of Leicester.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicestershire Promotions, said: “Market Harborough and its surrounding areas are home to some fantastic artisan producers, with many specialising in alcoholic drinks. The inaugural Spirit of Harborough event enables us to showcase several of these producers to visitors so if your tipple is wine, beer, cider or gin, the choice is yours!”

Leicestershire Promotions and Harborough District Council have formed a strategic partnership focused on promoting and developing the tourism offer in the district of Harborough. The partnership is supported by the employment of a dedicated Tourism Executive to work with local businesses, and increase the volume and value from the local visitor economy.
