Following five sold-out shows in Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Bournemouth on their ‘Super Tour’ across the UK this February, the Pet Shop Boys have announced that they will return to the UK again in June 2017 with two extra dates in Nottingham on 22nd June at Motorpoint Arena.
This week, Pet Shop Boys will collect the trophy for the Godlike Genius award at the VO5 NME Awards 2017. Previous Godlike Genius recipients include U2, Primal Scream, Blondie, The Cure and last year’s winners, Coldplay. NME’s editor-in-chief Mike Williams said: “For three decades, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have been pushing the boundaries of pop music, releasing a series of consistently excellent singles and albums and working to blur the boundaries between art, music and social commentary”.
For over 25 years the Pet Shop Boys have been regarded as innovators of the modern live music show, incorporating multimedia and theatrical elements into their productions, and they have worked with Derek Jarman, Zaha Hadid and Sam Taylor-Johnson.
The Super Tour will see Pet Shop Boys perform songs from their acclaimed new album ‘Super’, as well as classic PSB hits and album tracks from their entire career. The Super tour was staged by long-term Pet Shop Boys designer Es Devlin and choreographer Lynne Page and the live arrangements were created together with Stuart Price, who produced the Super album.
When the show was premiered last summer in a sold-out season at the Royal Opera House in London, it was described by The Independent newspaper as “a vivid, laser-laden spectacular” while the Daily Telegraph raved that “the show encompasses high culture, club culture, theatre, cinema, political satire and a mind-bending laser show”.
Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday 17 February and are available from motorpointarenanottingham.com
