The dark winter skies over Cathedral Gardens will be bathed in light this Christmas, as BID Leicester and St Martins House present Christmas in the Gardens.
Cathedral Gardens is well known as a serene corner of the city, and the area will only get more beautiful when the night sky draws in this December as the gardens welcomes a unique and interactive light installation.
Imagine a giant inflatable sphere, four metres across, glowing with intense colours and imagery, and suddenly you see the faces of you and your friends appear in the quirky animations. Welcome to the world of LightWeight.
This enchanting twilight show will be the centrepiece of Cathedral Gardens this Christmas. Watch as video and animation effects spin magically around the entire surface of the globe. You can even see your very own animated portrait dancing across the structure – just strike a pose in the face-recognition camera booth and watch in wonder as it appears on the globe. Will your image be in a flock of mischievous angels flapping around the sphere, or the face of another quirky animated character? Come along and see for yourself!
Leicester Cathedral and the surrounding gardens will be magnificently lit to provide a stunning backdrop to the LightWeight installation. Coloured light boxes will illuminate the trees, and elsewhere in the gardens there will be familiar seasonal sights and sounds including carol singers, transforming the Gardens into a festive retreat in the heart of the city.
Conveniently located between Jubilee Square Ice Rink and Leicester’s thriving independent shopping areas of St Martins Square and The Lanes, Christmas in the Gardens will inject some festive spirit into the Old Town. This new event will mesmerise people of all ages and is a must-see in Leicester this December.
Christmas in the Gardens is brought to you by BID Leicester and St Martins House, and produced by Big Difference Company.
