CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH 2FUNKY’S ARTIST SHOWCASE

To celebrate Black History Month, 2Funky Music Café are hosting an event on the 31st of October, which will represent art in all its forms from a diverse line-up of solely Black artists.

The Leicester-based black arts and music organisation, 2Funky Arts, will provide a platform for an array of talented black artists, so that they can showcase their individual artistry, as well as voice their opinions around the Black Lives Matter Movement, and the effects Covid-19 may have placed upon them.

“It is very important to give a voice to those who are often overlooked and marginalised within society. As an organisation that strives to provide inclusion for black arts and music, I felt it was very fundamental to create an event that responds to these challenges, and I felt that we needed to hear from black artists themselves, as their voices need representation!” – 2Funky Art’s Director Vijay Mistry.

This event will feature 12 different Leicester artists from diverse, creative backgrounds covering: poetry, rap, singing, dancing, photography, spoken word, motivational speeches and jazz. Some popular upcoming artists on the line-up include: soulful singer Morgan Munroe, poet and activist The Orator, Conscious Rapper Strizzy Straus, break-dancer Helder Delgado, jazz saxophonist Marcus Joseph, and funk singer Lydia Lutudi.

Hosting the evening is BBC Radio Presenter Aminata Kamara, someone who is all too aware about creating a platform that can showcase the variety of local unsigned talent that Leicester has to offer. She will be a great addition to the event which she will kick off at 6.00pm on Saturday 31st October.
