Celebrate the Chinese Year of the Tiger with John Lewis & Partners and The Peony Girl

To celebrate the Year of the Tiger, The Peony Girl is creating a mural for John Lewis & Partners Leicester store in Highcross Shopping Centre on Chinese New Year which begins on 1st February 2022. The mural will feature a tiger surrounded by blooming peonies, a national flower of China where peonies have been cultivated for at least 1,500 years, representing wealth, prosperity and honour.

A Tiger is a majestic creature seen in Chinese culture as a brave and powerful animal. The Year of Tiger symbolises power, bravery, honour, and defeating evil spirits. As we enter 2022, it seems a very appropriate symbol for everyone’s efforts and especially our frontline workers in protecting our communities from COVID19.

John Lewis and Partners Leicester have commissioned Siyuan Ren, a Leicestershire based artist, founder of The Peony Girl and a member of Leicester Society of Artists (LSA), to create a special mural at John Lewis & Partners on the first floor at the entrance of the Highcross from the 28th Monday  – 31st January 2022.

Siyuan has lived in Leicestershire for the past 10 years. She prides herself in creating a unique chinoiserie style – English Romance with Oriental Elegance. The Peony Girl is a regular exhibitor at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and in 2019 was very fortunate to present her own silk fans to Her Majesty, the Queen, and Princess Michael of Kent.

You can meet and talk to the artist from Friday 28th January to 31st January as she creates this unique wall mural to celebrate Chinese New Year.
