CHARITABLE CELEBRATIONS: LEICESTER CURRY AWARDS RAISE £3,000 FOR AGE UK LEICESTER SHIRE & RUTLAND

Leicester Curry Awards

On Monday 27th September, local charity Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland joined in Leicester’s celebration of its culinary delights at the Leicester Curry Awards.

The fourth annual awards were held at the Athena and was an evening full of music, fun and exquisite food. Awards given on the night included Restaurant of the Year, Best Vegetarian Restaurant and Best Takeaway.

An official charity partner for this year’s awards, during the evening’s glittering event, the Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland team were presented with a cheque for £3,000.

On the night, Age UK Leics also had the chance to showcase the support and services they have provided in the last 18 months where they have never been more needed. Their Covid-19 response service supported over 8,000 people in the region including delivering emergency food parcels and providing telephone befriending calls to vulnerable and lonely older people.

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is an independent local charity with a national name. They work in the local community to help older people live happier, active, fulfilled and socially-engaged lives in communities around the City, County and Rutland.

Tony Donovan, Executive Director at Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland says: “It’s been an incredibly difficult year for all of us and for our businesses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re honoured to have partnered with the Leicester Curry Awards this year to shine a light on the region’s vibrant Asian culture and hospitality sector.”

He adds: “We are grateful for the support they have given us, the opportunity to raise awareness of the support and services our charity provides for the community and for their generous donation.”
