De Montfort Hall, Leicester
14 December 2019 to 5 January 2020
There is still time to grab your tickets to the best panto of the season at De Montfort Hall. Aladdin is a wonderful production with vibrant costumes, the usual tongue in cheek jokes, sing along songs and amazing magic. What more could you want for a fun family time?
This year’s cast include past X Factor winner Sam Bailey, now in her fourth year starring in the De Montfort Hall panto. Her brilliant voice as well as her down to earth attitude makes her a Leicester Legend and the audience loved her.
As a big treat, Antony Costa (formerly of boy band Blue), played the evil Abanazar. He played the baddy well and the boos rang through the theatre for his wicked ways. A lot of the jokes were poked towards him in reference to his past musical career and he took it all in great humour.
Aladdin was played by Matthew Pomeroy, who is a brilliant magician and alongside Princess Jasmine (Natasha Lamb) they stunned the audience with levitation and disappearing from boxes tricks. A real twist for a panto and the result was simply wonderful.
Martin Ballard is brilliant as always as the ‘Dame’ Widow Twankey and with Wishee Washee (Paul Burling) by his side they create an ongoing dialogue of gags and general silliness to keep everything flowing. Paul Burling is the impressionist from Britain’s Got Talent where he was a finalist. His wide variety of impressions are impressive and his energy even more so.
This is the best panto that I have seen to date and if you haven’t been already then book your tickets before it’s too late.
