GHOST, GOBLINS AND GHOULS TAKE OVER LEICESTER!

A host of eight mischievous spirits will soon be haunting Leicester city centre, as The Great
Leicester Ghost Hunt launches on Monday 20 October – a free, family-friendly trail of
projections, illusions and spooky surprises running until 2 November 2025.

Visitors can expect to meet confused Roman Centurions, mischievous monks, Viking warriors,
and even a chocolate-fuelled undead explorer, plus a ghostly reincarnation of BBC Radio
Leicester’s Ady Dayman
, broadcasting an eerie late-night show from beyond the grave.

Each ghostly encounter reveals a hidden story, conjured through theatrical illusion, creative tech and a dash of mischief. Expect talking reflections, flickering holograms and strange silhouettes where you least expect them. Some by day, others only after dark.

Presented by BID Leicester and created by MBD with Mr Cleaver’s Monsters, the trail is supported by Leicester City Council and Arts Council England. The experience transforms familiar landmarks into a playful, haunted storybook, inviting visitors to explore, discover and be
surprised.

Visitors can follow the trail for free at their own pace using the My Leicester App, which features a digital map, audio clips and clues to each haunted location. Those who check in at all eight ghost sites through the app will be entered into a prize draw to win £300.

Running alongside the Ghost Hunt is Leicester Restaurant Week (20 Oct – 2 Nov), which will see venues across the city offering exclusive menus and dining deals. Together, the two BID
Leicester projects promise two weeks of food, fun and family adventures throughout half-term
and Halloween.

Simon Jenner, Director of BID Leicester, said:

“We wanted to bring something truly unique to Leicester this Halloween, an experience that mixes storytelling, technology and a sense of fun.”

“The Great Leicester Ghost Hunt is free, accessible, and full of surprises. We can’t wait to see
families, friends and visitors exploring the city, meeting the ghosts and enjoying Leicester’s
brilliant restaurants, cafés and bars along the way.”

Trail maps can also be downloaded from bidleicester.co.uk/ghosthunt or picked up in print
from the Visit Leicester Information Centre. Some ghosts appear by day, others after dark,
meaning there’s always more to discover for curious explorers.

Cllr Vi Dempster, deputy city mayor for culture, said:

“I know that families really enjoyed the Leicester Monsters trail, so I’m delighted the council is supporting The Great Leicester Ghost Hunt.

It’s great to offer families an exciting free activity for half-term, and a perfect way to encourage
them to discover all the city has to offer.”

Trail maps will be available online and from the Visit Leicester Information Centre. Visitors are
encouraged to share sightings and spooky selfies on social media using #LeicesterGhostHunt.
