Looking for plans over the August Bank Holiday weekend? Head into Leicester for the City Festival.
Over the August Bank Holiday enjoy an entire weekend of live entertainment, street theatre, dance, art and music. The climax of the City Festival will be the journey of STORM. STORM is a folklore giant made real. Towering at an astonishing 10-metres tall, this goddess of the seas is the largest puppet in the UK. She is marking her first appearance in England at Leicester’s festival.
STORM will start off the festival at Town Hall Square, at 12noon. She will be joined by flash mob-style performances along the route followed by the samba rhythms of Leicester’s Sambando at the Clock Tower. Local dance group, Studio 79 will bring an explosive performance to mark the end of STORM‘s journey on Jubilee Square at 3.55 pm.
Other highlights of the City Festival on Saturday include The Bees; an engaging installation of multi-sensory hives each hiding a unique, unexpected interior world. You can step inside a giant silver whale to experience a fun, immersive mini-show. The Whale will be suitable for all ages on Humberstone Gate.
Whilst on Sunday there is plenty more to enjoy too!
As well as STORM, the Clock Tower will play host to Mayfly. This spectacular fusion of water, dance and song will come to life with water effects and leaping fountains. There is also an interactive workshop after the first performance to learn more from those involved in this creation. Mayfly also offers a Touch Tour for those who have a visual impairment. Whereas on the High Street is The Bewonderment Machine. This is a miniature theatrical flight of the imagination, combining puppetry, machinery, hand-carved wooden animals and music on a carousel powered by a cycle.
