Fairfield Preparatory School Tree-ted to tallest in East Midlands

Fairfield Preparatory School has kicked off its festive celebrations by switching on the lights on the tallest Christmas tree in the East Midlands.

It took two men 14 hours to decorate the redwood tree, which, at 100ft, is taller than the tree in London’s Trafalgar Square and as high as three double decker buses.

Headteacher, Mr Andrew Earnshaw, addressed staff and pupils before the youngest student in Reception, pushed the plunger that switched on the 900 lights attached to 250 metres of cable.

Mr Earnshaw said:

“We have had a great afternoon to start our Christmas festivities, the tree looks so impressive. Our pupils have been busy calculating its height and it looks fantastic! Our lit-up tree can be seen for miles and we hope our local community will enjoy it as much as we do.”
