Fairfield Preparatory School has kicked off its festive celebrations by switching on the lights on the tallest Christmas tree in the East Midlands.
It took two men 14 hours to decorate the redwood tree, which, at 100ft, is taller than the tree in London’s Trafalgar Square and as high as three double decker buses.

Mr Earnshaw said:
“We have had a great afternoon to start our Christmas festivities, the tree looks so impressive. Our pupils have been busy calculating its height and it looks fantastic! Our lit-up tree can be seen for miles and we hope our local community will enjoy it as much as we do.”
