Fun, Fire And Fundraising At Leicestershire’s Spectacular Firewalk Event

The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope charity is holding a fundraising firewalk event on 9 February 2018 at Sainsbury’s, Glen Road, Oadby in Leicestershire.

The firewalk is a bare foot walk over red-hot wood embers, measuring around 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The charity is looking for brave volunteers and generous sponsors for the event. People can register their interest with [email protected].

On the night, training will be provided from 7.30pm and the firewalk will start at 8.30pm.

Two of the first volunteers to sign up for the firewalk include Sapphire Carter, the current Miss Leicestershire and Miss England, and Jack Eyers, a personal trainer and male model who was the first amputee to be crowned as Mr England in 2017, having had his right leg amputated at the age of 16.

Jack Eyers said: “I’m really excited to attempt the firewalk on 9 February! For me, this represents overcoming a physical and mental fear. I hope that this challenge raises awareness of homelessness in Leicester. These guys are facing physical and mental challenges every day by being on the streets. The aim is to raise money for The Bridge charity who work with and support the homeless to overcome these challenges and turn their lives around.”

Sapphire Carter commented: “I’m overjoyed to be taking part in the firewalk. It’s such an innovative and beautiful way to raise money for charity whilst challenging people. I’ve only ever seen it happen in films so I’m ready to make it a reality and help a worthy cause, like The Bridge.”

Steve Owen, Chair of The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope added: “A firewalk is one of the most inspirational journeys that you will ever undertake. We’re looking for courageous volunteers to join Sapphire, Jack and others and literally step up to help us raise important funds for the Leicester homeless community.”

The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope charity is run by over 60 volunteers plus three part- and full-time staff, and has been helping homeless people to turn their lives around since 2009. For more information, visit www.bridgeleicester.org
