Get Cooking with the Spice Guy

Sandie Vara is The Spice Guy, a chef with bags of personality and culinary skills that are making huge waves in the Leicester food community.

This British born, Liverpool FC supporting Mancunian has adopted the city of Leicester to his heart and is working on changing the way us Leicester folk cook with his cookery classes across the county that keep things firmly focused on flavour!

Having immersed himself in foods from around the world and researching new flavours, Sandie has a residency at Lily’s Live Lounge on the quirky and independent store laden New Bond Street (behind Debenhams).

The classes are varied in content, depending on what you want to achieve and your cooking level, Sandie runs three classes: The workshop – 2 hours, this is designed for beginners; The food lovers class
– 4 hours; The masterclass – 6 hours and this is designed for people who love to cook. The classes are constantly evolving but one thing that runs through them is the theme of cooking with spices, something Sandie is incredibly passionate about – hence the title of The Spice Guy.

“Spices have been used around the world for over 2000 years and have influenced history like no other. Empires have been built on spices. Spices have been used to heal, make perfume, aid sexual health and to top it all they have made our food delicious!” says Sandie.

The cookery classes have become so popular that he’s planning them well into 2020 and there’s the option to buy places on future courses as Christmas gifts along with Sandie’s own range of aromatic, freshly ground spices, all sealed in airtight jars and availabel individually or as gift packs.
