LCB Design Season Celebrates Leicester's Fashion Community.

As LCB Design Season 1 continues through October, attention now turns to the wonderfully creative community at Makers Yard, who are hosting a fashion showcase from 22 – 26 October at LCB Depot. Leicester itself has a long history of fashion and manufacturing, and Makers Yard are moving this forward with their exceptionally talented tenants

Makers Yard is located in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, and provides an award-winning, dynamic and inspiring workspace for creative entrepreneurs. The Makers Yard building itself is actually a listed building, which is the oldest surviving hosiery factory in the East Midlands. It’s now been sensitively restored into ten studios which house a growing creative community of artists and designer-makers.

Now, eight of Makers Yard’s talented designer-maker studios are presenting their fashion works in the showcase located in spaces around LCB Depot, as part of Makers’ Yard Fashion Week, taking place from 22-26 October.

All of the exhibitors work in fashion, with a cross contamination of art, craft, heritage and couture. It’s truly the best of Leicester’s designer community and a perfect opportunity to see the talent that fills the vibrant hub in the Cultural Quarter.

Businesses exhibiting their works include:

Eriko Ogungbeje – knitted garments and fashion accessories
Felt 4 Art Sake – designs in felt by Sushila Pillai
Giulia Mio Millinery – haute couture milliner
Gurtej Matharu Clothing – Indo-Western designs
Helen Howe Atelier – handmade luxury tweed clothing
Love White Rabbit – designs for your desires
Pip’s Wonderland – Glitter Bags, Bag Charms and much more
Rare Folk – bespoke, rare hair and body adornment

There will also be a chance to meet and network with the companies involved, as well as to purchase your favourite items at an evening reception on Thursday 25 October from 6-9pm at LCB Depot. Entry is free and there’ll be refreshments available from on-site GRAYS Coffee Shop & Kitchen.

LCB Workspace Manager, James Burkmar, commented, “Seeing the Makers Yard showcase come together for this week has really brought to life just how much talent there is among the designer-maker community. These businesses on our doorstep are shipping around the world and the talent is continuing to grow.”

“For anyone interested in the world of fashion in Leicester the event on Thursday 25 October offers a special opportunity to chat to the creative minds behind these businesses and discover some really special pieces.”

LCB Design Season 1 runs launched in September and runs for 8 weeks in the city’s Cultural Quarter. The confirmed programme of events can be found on the website www.designseason.uk and you can follow updates on Twitter and Instagram @lcbdesignseason.
